THE 1970S

A period of travels between Italy and the world. New subjects appear: flowers and animals, often cockerels and doves, are portrayed alongside the rolling and marine landscapes. The brush strokes grow longer, encompassing figures and curving to lend movement to the surfaces. The palette is often marked by a contrast between warm and cold colours. Spatial composition gets more complex, and style gets more original, even though it is influenced by French, as well as Italian, historical avant-garde, especially Casorati, Sironi, Carrà.
