THE 1990S

A time where he challenges himself and his schemes, through a radical, energetic, vitalistic turn, tinted with spirituality and mysticism. The choice of subjects takes on symbolic and metaphorical meanings. In the new poetic language, the temporal and atmospheric dimension of places takes centre stage, so landscapes are often represented at dawn, at dusk or by night. The brush strokes are more and more stretched and sinuous. Particularly, in the “Chestnut” series the stroke is slow and heavy: it curves, closing the shapes, and opening them at the same time, giving them a sort of aura. Composition become more synthetic and the palette turns to the primal essentiality of pure colours, yellow, blue, white, black, with the surprising addition of pink and green.
